What is maternity insurance?
Maternity insurance is an insurance product exclusively for pregnant and giving birth women. This insurance package will provide mothers with attractive benefits related to health care during pregnancy and childbirth. Specifically, buyers of voluntary maternity insurance will be covered by the insurance company for periodic antenatal examination and birth costs ( caesarean section and normal birth). In particular, mothers are also paid for the costs of examination and treatment of abnormal symptoms during pregnancy or maternity complications.
Currently, there are not many insurance products for pregnant women on the market, but some types of insurances that bring very practical maternity benefits to pregnant women are social insurance, health insurance packages and health care insurance. health.
1. Social insurance
Social insurance is a type of social insurance organized by the State to ensure the replacement or compensation of part of employees' income when they are reduced or lost their income due to illness, maternity, labor accidents, occupational diseases, out of working age or death, on the basis of paying into the social insurance fund.
The amount of money to enjoy the maternity benefit in 2023 will depend on the base salary, the average monthly salary for social insurance payment of 06 months before quitting from work to enjoy the maternity regime and the number of children born in 1 birth. Specifically, the allowances that employees receive from the maternity regime include the following:
1.1. One-time allowance for childbirth
Employees who have paid social insurance for full 06 months during the 12 months before giving birth will be eligible for a one-time allowance at birth. According to the provisions of Article 38, Law on Social Insurance 2014, the one-time allowance is equal to 02 times the base salary in the month of labor for women giving birth.
Before July 1, 2023, the base salary is 1,490,000 VND/month, so the one-time allowance if the worker gives birth before this time is: 1,490,000 VND x 2 = 2,980,000 VND for each child.
For example: If a worker gave birth to a child in June 2023, the one-time allowance for giving birth to a child is VND 2,980,000.
From July 1, 2023, the base salary increased to 1,800,000 VND/month, then the one-time allowance that workers receive will now be: 1,800,000 VND x 2 = 3,600,000 VND per child.
For example: If a worker gave birth to a child in September 2023, the worker will receive VND 3,600,000.
1.2. The amount of maternity benefits in 2023 for 6 months of maternity leave
During the period of labor leave, if eligible for maternity benefits, female workers will receive a subsidy paid by the Social Insurance Agency. Specifically:
According to the provisions of Article 39, Law on Social Insurance 2014, the benefit of the maternity regime of female workers giving birth is equal to 100% of the average monthly salary for social insurance payment of 06 months before taking time off work to enjoy the maternity regime. and female workers will be entitled to maternity leave for 06 months, in case of twins or more, from the second child onwards, for each female worker will be entitled to an additional maternity leave of 1 month.
For example, if the average monthly salary for social insurance contributions of the 6 months before the employee's maternity leave is 7,000,000 VND/month, the employee will receive 7,000,000 VND for each month during the maternity leave. This money will be received at the same time as the one-time birth benefit.
1.3. Postpartal health care
According to the provisions of Article 14, the Law on Social Insurance 2014, in case female workers return to work after enjoying the maternity regime for about the first 30 days of work but their health has not recovered, they can take a health vacation from 05 x 2d 10 days. Health care and recovery after giving birth will be equal to 30% of the base salary.
Accordingly, before July 1, 2023, 1 day health care is 447,000 VND/day. From July 1, 2023, the postpartum health care level is 540,000 VND/day.For example, if a female worker goes back to work on October 1, 2023, that worker will receive 540,000 VND per day for 30 days of health care.
1.4 Maternity money for husband when wife does not pay social insurance
According to current regulations, when the male employee's wife is pregnant, that employee is also entitled to maternity allowance. Accordingly, based on Point a, Clause 2, Article 9, Circular 59/2015/TT-BLDTBXH, in case the wife does not participate in social insurance, the husband will be entitled to maternity money if he pays social insurance for 6 months or more within 12 months before the wife giving birth. Specifically:
1.4.1 One-time allowance when the wife gave birth
According to the provisions of Article 38, Law on Social Insurance 2014, in case the wife gives birth but does not participate in social insurance, the husband pays social insurance for 6 months or more, the husband is entitled to receive a lump-time allowance equal to 2 times the base salary at the month of birth for each child.
- Before July 1, 2023, the one-time allowance that the husband received was 1,490,000 VND x 2 = 2,980,000 VND for each child.
- From July 1, 2023 onwards, the one-time allowance that the husband receives is 1,8000.000 VND x 2 = 3,600,000 VND for each child.
1.4.2 Grants during holidays
According to the provisions of Clause 1, Article 39, during the wife's maternity leave, the husband will be entitled to the child birth benefit according to the following benefits:
Benefit = Mbq6t: 24 x number of days off
In which, Mbq6t: Average monthly salary for social insurance contributions of 6 months before quitting work to enjoy the maternity regime.
Number of days off: Wife gave birth normally (5 days), wife gave birth by caesarean section/birth under 32 weeks old (7 days), wife gave birth to twins (10 days), wife gave birth to 3 (13 days), wife gave birth to twins or more but had surgery (14 days).
2. Health insurance package of non-life insurance company
Health insurance is a type of commercial insurance that provides financial support when an unfortunate participant has an accident, injury, illness, illness or health care.
Maternity benefits in health insurance packages are optional additional benefits to support costs before and after the birth of the baby, some medical costs, treatment due to maternity complications, baby care costs. Accordingly, pregnant women who buy health insurance can choose a maternity program to be both protected from risks and the best maternity care.
The maximum insurance limit for maternity benefits is pre-set according to each basic to advanced plan of the health insurance package. Depending on each insurance package of each company, the basic maternity benefits are 40 million, 70 million, especially with high-end insurance packages, maternity benefits are up to more than 100 million. With comprehensive maternity insurance benefits, pregnant women can register for examination and childbirth at leading hospitals in Vietnam and be guaranteed hospital fees with health insurance cards.
The condition for receiving maternity benefits is after a waiting period of 210 days, 270 days or 280 days.Before buying an insurance package and choosing a maternity insurance plan for pregnant mothers, pay attention: one is to consider choosing a health insurance plan that is suitable for financial conditions; the other is to consider renewing insurance to enjoy full maternity benefits if the birth plan does not meet the original expectations.
3. Health care insurance of life insurance company
Health care insurance is an additional insurance product purchased with the main life insurance policy to increase insurance benefits for participants at a low fee. Maternity benefits are one of the guaranteed benefits of the life insurance policy ( maternity insurance) and are included in the inpatient treatment benefits of the health care insurance package.
Similar to the health insurance package, maternity benefits in complementary insurance products also have a maximum limit for each program from basic to superior. The minimum is paid for each case of normal birth, caesarean section or unfortunately with maternity complications, which includes room costs, birth costs, pregnancy tests, baby care costs, emergency and treatment costs. The maximum payment limit is in the range of 10 million - 35 million depending on each company's product. Pregnant women should also pay attention to the waiting time of about 270 days to plan a baby to ensure maternity benefits. And should be renewed every year, because health care insurance not only brings maternity benefits to pregnant mothers but also supports most of the costs of other inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, dentistry when unfortunately sick and hospitalized.
