WHAT IS HEALTH INSURANCE?
Health insurance (health insurance) is a form of compulsory insurance applied to subjects by the Law on Health Insurance for health care, not for profit purposes organized by the State. This regime is implemented based on the principles of ensuring risk sharing among health insurance participants.
The health insurance fund is centrally managed, unified, publicized, and transparent, ensuring the balance of revenue and expenditure and protected by the State. In addition, the principles of payment, benefit level, and medical examination and treatment costs are also strictly regulated.
Thus, it can be understood that health insurance is a type of insurance in the field of public health care. Accordingly, health insurance buyers will be paid part or all of the cost of the examination, treatment, health recovery, etc. if unfortunately there is an accident, illness, or illness.
Who has to take health insurance?
Pursuant to Decree 146/2018/ND-CP The following groups of health insurance participants include the following 6 groups:

The group is paid by employees and employers.

The group is paid by the social insurance agency.

The group participates in health insurance by household.

Health insurance contributions of employees and employers
For employees and enterprises, the level of health insurance premiums is based on salary as a basis for social insurance contributions. Specifically, the rate of health insurance payment of employees and employers is as follows:

In total, employees and employers will pay 4.5% of the monthly salary of social insurance contributions of employees and the Health Insurance Fund. In which, employees pay 1/3 and employers pay 2/3.
Health insurance contribution level of students
Pursuant to Clause 3, Article 4 of Decree 146/2018/ND-CP and Clause 4, Article 12 of the Law on International Insurance 2014. Students and students belonging to the group of health insurance contributions supported by the State budget are as follows:
The monthly health insurance contribution is equal to 4.5% of the base salary. From July 1, 2023, the base salary is 1,800,000 VND/month.
Therefore, the student's health insurance payment for the 2023-2024 school year is 4.5% x 1,800,000 = 81,000 VND/month, equivalent to 972,000 VND/year.
Which, students contribute 70%, equivalent to 56,700 VND/month, and the State budget supports 30% contribution, equivalent to 24,300 VND/month.

Pursuant to the provisions of Point e, Clause 1, Article 7 of Decree No. 146/2018/ND-CP. The annual health insurance premiums by household in 2023 from July 1, 2023, are as follows:

Where to buy household health insurance?
People wishing to participate in household health insurance can choose how to register, buy, or renew household health insurance in one of the following two forms:
1) Buy new or renew household health insurance online, and pay money through banks or smart utility systems. See the details
2) Register to buy new, and pay for household health insurance renewal directly at the social insurance collection service team.
The law has specific regulations on where to buy directly for new registers or extend household health insurance, you can register to buy household health insurance in the following locations:
- Organize social insurance collection services, such as People's Committees of communes, wards, towns, post offices, and women's associations in the locality...
- Social insurance agencies of communes, wards, and towns where they reside or temporarily.
To apply for household health insurance, you need to prepare the following documents:
- Declaration of participation in adjusting information on social insurance and health insurance (form TK1-TS).
- Original or copy of health insurance card of other household members (if any).
Method of paying for household health insurance
The method of payment for the purchase/active extension of household health insurance, the representative of the household can choose one of the following ways:
1) Pay periodically for 03 months, 06 months, or 12 months, the representative of the household directly pays the health insurance premium to the social insurance agency or the health insurance collection agent at the commune level.
2) Close online via the National Public Service Portal.
3) Close online via the Vietnam Social Insurance Portal.
